Paleo Diet Food Dos and Don’ts

Making changes in our diet can be difficult. Most of us find it hard to let go of the quick, instant fixes and calorie-ridden foods that we are accustomed to.

Others do so well during the first few weeks only to slip back to old routines as days pass and they barely notice any improvement.

This is always the case regardless of the kind of diet you are following. However, there are ways that you can make the transition easier and more effective in the long-run. For those who just started with doing the Paleo, here are Paleo diet recipes to keep in mind.

1. Moderation is Key

If you are new to this diet, you probably read tens of Paleo diet recipes online. Here is the thing: the key to your success is moderation. While the foods included in Paleo diet are healthy, that does not give you a reason to overdo it. If you eat too much, it would always translate to weight gain.

Say for instance, nuts. While they are highly beneficial, you need to limit your intake to a handful each day because of its high calorie content. Its Omega 3-Omega 6 ratio is not very good, either.

Likewise, go easy on the fruits. As it has high fructose content, too much of this on your plate may lead to inflammation in your body and insulin response. Excessive fructose is also known to cause storage fat conversion.

Since there are different kinds of Paleo diet, you might be tempted to stick to one “mode” only. Do not. Switch it up to find out which one is best for you, or better yet, which among the combinations of the different brands of Paleo can be most beneficial to you. Do not be too fixated on just doing the very low carb diet, or the auto-immune protocol. Try the others before choosing.

2. Not Enough Sleep

You might follow the best Paleo diet but if you do not get enough sleep, then you can kiss all your efforts goodbye.

Sleep is always a factor, others even consider as the deciding factor, in achieving a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Without this in the equation, your body and mind will not function efficiently.

3. Take the Easy Road

One of the things that you would find hard to let go of is junk food. In the Paleo diet, there are not equivalents to this top guilty (and unhealthy) pleasure. There are packaged or prepared Paleo foods available on the market. However, you should keep in mind that an important factor to the success of a Paleo diet is preparing your food yourself. This way you are sure that it is fresh and designed to meet your requirements.

4. Go Back to Old Habits

It always starts with just one portion of a non-Paleo diet food, and before you know it you are back to your old routine. While might be unavoidable for you to eat things which are not on your diet plan, do not make this as an excuse to revert to your old habit. Instead, take this opportunity to remind yourself never again to go back to your unhealthy eating habits. If you still have some non-Paleo diet foods in the fridge or in your counters, ditch them fast! You would not want to have to go to square one again.
